Focus

When I left work,
deemed by society
to be old enough
to afford the luxury of uselessness,
I thought my horizons
would broaden.
Rather,
people lowered their shields
removed their disguises
and, façadeless,
showed their true worth
and life became honed
on those and that
which was of worth.

Blogiography

This is what I term a "blogiography": a simple list of what I have posted. I've now decided to sub-divide the list into:
  • photographs;
  • shorrt stories;
  • miscellaneous including humour; and
  • poems.

I've posted [CW] to indicate a Content Warning below where I consider it merited. As mentioned in the header of this blog, I tend to "write out" negative states in poems, which is part of a self-therapy, and then go on with life and dealing with issues, etc - but it does mean the poems can be about distressing or upsetting matters. My short stories are often commentaries on the flaws of society - as are some poems - so, again, they can be about distressing or upsetting matters.

In due course I will also get those included in the titles of those posts as I continue to update this blogiography (although, given that I am adding these to years of posts, I will not provide much detail).

Separation

Separations come
in many forms ...
- a loved item lost ...
- a loved one lost ...
- a family or an entire people lost.

And I have lost all those
- things,
- people - to illness, change, distance, or time
- family, when I was adopted,
though I also gained a family,
- and an entire people,
my Wiradjuri and Widjabul people,
and I mourn those never met,
the things never learned,
the chances to give & help
that never came ...
and they have lost all that I could have done ...

The First Peoples

Tens of millennia ago
They came - the First Peoples
of this land
to a place similar, but not quite the same.

They learned
and sang the songs of this place;
They shared tasks
and made new things
- new tools, new ways,
to nurture this land,
and share it for all.

They watched it change
- waters rose, volcanoes blew, climate changed
and animals too;
and they learned anew
each time
how best to nurture this land
,
and share it for all

But, just of late,
in the blink of a geological eye,
strangers came
- people who did harm
to land and people both,
and grasped the land to claim
“this is mine - I will take it
and share with none
- and leave none to share with
...
nor to learn from.

Not broken enough

Bent, bowed, and bloody,
Almost broken
- but not quite.
I am not broken enough
to stop
- nor even
be allowed to stop.

Note: the phrase bloodied, but unbowed is used in the poem Invictus, and conveys a different sentiment - one of being injured, but not seriously harmed (not harmed of spirit, at least). The above is about a worse situation - when the injury has  reached and harmed ones spirit, but still one persists ...

When attempts to communicate

the message is clear:
I shall be alone.
