Bereft [Content Warning - news event]

Bereft ...
bereft ...
- I am bereft 

The slaughter
of young
- not innocent
but ... naive
- potential
mayhap warped
but not yet locked
Reminds me
of all I have lost
and had stolen
most vilely
viciously
and violently
from me - and mine 

Bereft ...
bereft ...
- I am bereft

And doubly so
- nay trebly even more
The loss was done
by one of us
One who was lost
had lost
mayhap been abused
where they sought
a vile redress
and only did worse
and spread yet worse
to all here now
and all to come.

Bereft ...
bereft ...
- I am bereft 

There are no winners here
- save those who sell
pain and hate, misery and death.

resist

As a child
that urge to
sacrifice
truth
for to belong
- nay, I needs
must be
calling out
hypocrisy. 

Resist

- I must resist.

As a new a-dult
that pressure
to toe the line
- to pay lip
service
whilst I do
as others
lie and bid
- nay, I needs
must be
giving lip
to those who have
no honour. 

Resist
resist
- I must resist.

In middle
of age
that demand and drain
the do what one
must
to keep those one loves
safe and sound
- to that
I freely will
give
but
to so do at the cost
of my soul
I must resist. 

Resist
resist
- I must resist. 

And old of age
I now be
My soul
a tattered
bound and
contemptible
thing
- and I must
resist
the cheap and
easy
pat on the back
and do what
needs must be
to make this
world
a better place.
To the urge
to give up now

Spider of the Ceiling Corner

A hundred times
- and more
larger than thee
am I;
and yet ...
and yet
there you are
- on high,
wary
- come now hence,
go now forth;
I salute you
and your courage
spider of the ceiling corner.

PS - after a few weeks, the spider was safely relocated to outdoors - without any harm done
